Re: Next Autox Bowie 6/2/12

That sucks big time. At least the damage was fairly contained, though.

Re: Bowie on Saturday August 28th

I'll be running the "I think that's black under all the peeling clearcoat" Miata for the first time. If any other Miata drivers have some pointers I'd love to hear them.

Any chance you'd consider parting out the hard top?

WTB: Miata hardtop

Looking for a hardtop to fit a '95 Miata. I'd strongly prefer the 92-97 version with the defroster, but for the right price any hardtop will work. Paint color and quality are negotiable. I'm kicking myself for not jumping on the black top that was sold here a few months ago, but that was before I re...

Re: IMPORTANT- NEW BAR CODE SYSTEM- READ NOW

Any foreseeable problems printing the barcodes to sticker paper and then applying that to a sheet magnet? The magnet could go on the hood or fender close to the lower driver's side corner.

Re: why don't you see car x autocrossing?

They make the same 140 HP as the earlier 1.8L Miatas. They are by no means fast. The older 1.6L cars do have an advantage of less weight and shorter gearing. I thought the 1.8L Miatas didn't make 140 until the second generation. Didn't they bump the compression at the same time they added VVT for t...

Re: iRacing

I'm thinking of an xbox 360 as they have a highly acclaimed game that is supposed to rival Gran Turismo. By the time I got a good wheel, better PC & Iracing subscription it would not make much sense for one game, even if good. Forza is fun every once and a while, but there really aren't any goo...

I can't drive worth crap, but if anyone is going to put a team up for the Summit Point race next year I'd love to help with the pit crew.

Re: Loss of 10/17 event at Summit Point

Anyone have any info on rates? If the coupon is good for guests I was thinking of going up with a friend who has no interest in autocrossing his own car. I'm a little hesitant to do so until I have an idea how much it'd cost overall, though.

Re: 09/19 Summit Point

Thanks to woody for the mirror it was a great addition to the start. I like the radio as well even with it's short range. Woody said he will be bringing another antenna for it to try and extend the range that will be great too. I also hope that SP stays on the schedule for next year. I would even b...

Re: apologies and thanks to everybody

Be careful about generalizing sway bar adjustments between cars with totally different drivetrain layouts. A thick front (or rear) bar affects a FWD a bit differently than a RWD car.

Re: apologies and thanks to everybody

110db standing at the timing tent pointing a cheapo sound meter at the car as it went around. No scientific methodology used. Wow, depending on the distance from the tent to the car you could be spiking well over 140 db at the start line (where it's going to be loudest on a launch anyway). That'd b...

Re: apologies and thanks to everybody

The organizers measured it at Bowie. 110 dB on our noise meter. That only describes the volume of the noise, not the quality of the noise which is subjective. Who knows, maybe some guys like the sound of a dentist drill at 110db ? There are other cars out there too loud for my tastes, but this one ...

Registration for 7/18 event at Summit Point

I just noticed that registration is now open for the next autocross event. I didn't see an email go about about it, and from the lack of people on the roster it seems like nobody else did either.

Re: May 9th event at Summit Point

Just out of curiosity, what was it you liked about driving back to the paddock after your last run? I thought it kind of slowed the changed down, since everyone who had driven in heat A had to make their way back up to the surface to work. That was the one thing I thought worked better last time, bu...

Re: Timing Equipment

I'm planning on at least stopping by the event in Bowie this weekend, so I'll touch base with you there. On Windows we used a pretty slick serial driver library that basically timestamps and buffers all serial data/events coming in on a given port. The driver is grabbing the data and timestamp in an...

Re: Timing Equipment

Really old topic, but if you're still having timing issues and/or are looking at playing with the serial signals let me know. I don't know a lot about Autocross, but if there's anything I do know it's embedded systems and serial interfacing. There are a couple of third-party serial libraries you can...
