Mazda MX-5 Miatas Sweep Lime Rock Podium

Winning Car Co-driven by U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. with Prosthetic Leg. That's none other than Liam Dwyer! I first met Liam about 10 years ago at CDC. He's still recovering from severe injuries sustained in Afghanistan but his racing career is really starting to take off. Besides co-driving a Pro MX-5...

Re: Clustered Spires Spring Rally 2014

I've done this rally in the past. It's a lot of fun thanks to the many good, twisty roads around the boonies of Frederick. I plan to run it this year. Which reminds me, I need to e-mail Don Dean to let him know I plan to attend.

Atlanta Motorsports Park

Looks like fun! What really caught my eye was the auto-x membership. Just $2500 buy in, $50 monthly dues, $10 daily use fee. When everyone runs out of parking lots to use, the motorsports country club will be your only option left!

Re: Feedback from the miata guys...

Unless you have forced induction or a V8, Miatas generally have a lot more grip than available power. Don't get me wrong, I like the Torsen diff I swapped into my Miata, but if you're trying to go fast in a parking lot, Rcomps are a much better way to spend money than LSD.

Re: WRX Suspension Upgrade. What to do?

I concur with konkilr. Just drive the car as is for now. The car's limits far exceed your personal limits and you'll get the best bang for the buck spending money on event entry fees. Then, after a year or so of developing your own driving skill, if you want to go faster the next best bang for the b...

Update on Liam Dwyer

Former CDC organizer Sgt. Liam Dwyer ( ldstang50 ) was seriously injured on May 22 while serving in the United States Marine Corps in Afghanistan. His left leg had to be amputated above the knee. Both femurs broken, right leg tib/fib broken, collapsed lung, heavy damage to right hand/lower arm, doze...

Re: NA Miata Passenger Door Liner and Handle

$35 isn't going to get you much GO. But it will allow you to get rid of the big, intrusive arm rests while keeping things tidy looking inside. Both door panels cost me $6 total for the masonite, $20 for the black vinyl (you can find it cheaper if you wait for it to go on sale), $4 for some nylon rov...

Re: NA Miata Passenger Door Liner and Handle

David, I can help you make new door panel lowers if you want. I made a pair for my car and covered it in black vinyl. It's a good Saturday project and it doesn't cost much. I did it to get rid of the annoying plastic speaker grills on the 1.6 and because I deleted the arm rest for more clearance and...

Re: Looking for someone with a plasma cutter

D'oh! This is why you always try left handed drill bits before resorting to EZouts because those break half the time. Actually, the proper approach is to apply your penetrating lubricant of choice each day for several days. If that doesn't work then you get out the flame wrench (blue propane torch)....

Re: BEST STREET TIRES

I'm happy with my RE-11. Great street tire. I don't think I'll ever set FTD with them. Whichever tire you choose, get them shaved to 3/32nds for max auto-x performance. Full tread depth is for the street, not the parking lot (unless it's raining cats and dogs).

Drops. Seems like there's a lot of effort that goes into keeping score and time. However there's only a handful really competing for year end trophy. In small bore, there's only 5-6 of us who actually made it to 10+ events (less than that you would have a zero count for some events b/c of not makin...

Re: WTB: Miata Door Speaker Covers/Grilles

What year is your Miata? The 90-93 cars have a separate plastic speaker grill. The 94-97 have a round speaker grill that is integrated into the door panel. I have two of the early style speaker grills you can have. I no longer need them since I made new M2-1001 style door panels.

I decided that a portable handheld extinguisher was the right price and size for me. All said and done it cost me about $270 to protect my ride. But if you have a bit more room to spare SafeRacer is having a sale on a FIA Homologated on-board AFFF fire suppression system. It's only $325! Perfect for...

See my warning above about dry chemical fire extinguishers. There is a reason they use Halon on airplanes and race cars.
