Re: Star Specs?

Tires arriving today, and I just ordered some inexpensive 18x10" wheels. :D You could sell your mustang and use the money to buy my wife's miata i'm selling and a truckload of hoosier A6s :D I've actually thought about a Miata track rat. Problem is, I like irresponsible amounts of torque and s...

Re: This Is How Not To Drive A Porsche On A Race Track

I'm not exactly a track fiend but from what I've heard it's not uncommon for a car or two to get stuffed over the course of the weekend. People trying to be heroes

Oh and the video was taken down :(

Re: Educate me about small vintage cars! (MGs, Triumphs, etc

My first advice would be DON'T DO IT! Unless you've got a lot of time/money on your hands they are a lot of effort for something that you can only drive occasionally. Ask Ed or Joe how long that TR6 was in development for. Mike has 2 MGBs and he'll tell you. Him and I have been working on the one in...

Re: Star Specs?

Does anyone here actually DD this tire in the summer? If so, how many street miles do people see? The original star specs? I DD on them with the STI and I think the first set I ever had (when I was just auto-xing like 4 times a year) I got like 15-18k miles out of them. Subsequent sets have seen lo...

Re: Star Specs?

The new Rival and Z2 are, by all accounts, better than existing Z1 and RS3. BFG has made a spirited effort to regain some prior glory in both the R-comp and Extreme summer tire market. They've certainly got my attention :geek: Caitlin is going to be running the ZII on the mini next season. I've got...

Re: Need Brakes

I guess the real question is what are you finding lacking with your stock pads? Are you actually fading them or are you just figuring you'll get aftermarket pads while you're doing brakes? The stock pads on Caitlin's JCW just start to fade after about 6-7 runs if it's hot out. Which is pretty impres...

Perhaps they had it coming to them. ;) I've heard ...

Re: CDC 2012 Awards Lunch

HA good luck. It's pretty cool to see all the cars, but it's mostly old guys with their fancy cars showing them off to their buddies. I can't imagine, based on my observations, that you'll get many interested autocrossers. There's also been a few articles in the WaPo this past year mentioning it so...

Re: Anyone want to help replace a Cat. Conv.?

Maybe I'm at that station in life where i just do the fun, clean, non-swearing sort of maintenance 8-) Some day I'll get it into my stupid head that sometimes it's worth it to pay other people to work on my car. I spent HOURS replacing an exhaust flange on the GTI. Working on 20yr old cars makes me...

Re: Anyone want to help replace a Cat. Conv.?

I'm going to bet that after 8 years there is absolutely no way you're going to be able to "unbolt" the factory cat. The only way forward is heat/grinder/welder/swearing/etc. Honestly... I would call all around and see how much an exhaust shop would charge you to replace it. Might be worth ...

If you don't do it regularly I don't think 7 sessions at SPK would be much fun. Your hands will hurt like hell... your ribs will hurt like hell... and your tailbone will hurt like hell... And your neck is going to be tired from holding that helmet up. And that's all if you don't get crashed into. La...

Good times, was fun to jump back in with CDC for the test'n'tune. We sure got a lot of odd looks having 3 drivers beat the crap out of my beater automatic convertible. Didnt help that on the first run it deployed the rollover protection system! And on the last run of the day, it decided it wa...

Re: Star Specs?

I need a tire diameter of around 27". I wanted NT05s, but I'll have to upgrade to a 9" rim. I might end up having to do that, but I'd like to get a good set of ~200 treadwear street tires to fit on my current 8" wheels for next season and then for the '14 season get a second set of w...

Re: Star Specs?

unless you're at a point where you feel like the car is holding you back, I'd be all over a close-out deal on the current Star Specs. Agreed. I've been through 3 sets of the current generation Star Specs and they're a good tire for a heavier car like yours. The Hankook RS-3 is another good one that...

At the speeds we reach at Harry Grove, I'm sure this is a non-issue. I buddy of mine autox's his mid-90's boxy jeep cherokee, and pushes it HARD at waldorf and hasn't even come close. And last weekend at Bowie multiple large SUV's went as hard as they could and the outcome was fine. I didn't realiz...

Hopefully we'll have the mini back on coilovers for the last event of the year. Now I just hope the rebuilt Konis hold up for more than a season Mine would go like 3-4 events and start to leak again... What spring rates are you guys running? The mini is on TCK coilovers with hypercoil springs. The ...

I'm the owner/driver of the Juke. No, it's not a joke. Ran it at VIR earlier this year with no problems. And I was not taking it easy. That said, I've never done autoX and I plan on taking it easy, assuming the Juke satisfies the requirements. :geek: http://www.insideline.com/nissan/juke/2011/2011-...
