Re: Top Gear USA

The second episode was better. I think it had something to do with Tanner not presenting.

So now I have to deal with the fact that you kick my butt with street tires and less horsepower.

For the record, my Miata put down 105 on Ed York's dyno in mid November.

Top Gear USA

My vote is: meh Cinematography: Shaky video from camera vehicle, shaky video from in-car cameras. Very sub-par for Top Gear in some places but mostly of good quality. Presenters: Where was the banter? There were a couple zingers here and there, but for the most part it ran like an episode of Fifth G...

Re: EMRA @ Summit Point November 14th

Well that was a blast. Lots of track time for not a lot of money. The run groups were small so there was practically no traffic. Having a transponder to get accurate lap times was also a nice to have (too bad Franklin wouldn't pony up the $35 to rent one). Everyone was really nice and I got to chase...

Re: TrackDaze weekend 2-3 Oct @ Summit point Shenandoah

Are there many classes for the new miata? I think you lose some of the bang for your buck factor if you buy the last generation. They are still too new to be the best value. Even used they can be twice the price as a track ready NA or NB. Miata SCCA classing options: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showt...

Utter confusion at the tire place today

So I dropped off my RA-1s today to have them flipped on the rims in order to get a little bit more life out of them. I've never had so many confused questions from a car place before: 1) Are those slicks? 2) You want us to do what with them? 3) Hold on, let me go get the mechanic to see if we can do...

Re: WTB: deployed NA Miata passenger airbag

How did the passenger door pannel work out? It is still sitting on my work bench. I decided to replace the stock hardtop latches with the spec Miata plates. I got one phillips head bolt part ways out and said, this head is going to strip before this bolt comes out. So I went to put it back in. Tota...

I'm looking for the dash cover in black. If you have a deployed bag sitting around, I'd love to take it off your hands.

Frank and I use a 2x4 with a groove cut in it. Slip 2x4 onto pinch weld, put jack under 2x4, jack from side. Find a friend with a circular saw or a router and make yourself one. The board is about 1 foot long. It will work on my car with the blue Harbor Freight jack so it should work on almost all M...

Re: WTB: Miata Door Speaker Covers/Grilles

I have the 94-97 style panels. I've only seen some pictures of the 94-97 style panels since mine came with the stock speaker cover already removed. It looked like the speaker cover was held into the panel by some tabs on the back of the cover. See here: http://revlimiter.net/blog/2009/08/the-door-pa...

WTB: Miata Door Speaker Covers/Grilles

Looking for the mesh or fabric covers and trim ring to cover the holes in my doors. Black. I don't have any idea what the OE covers look like or if they are actually integrated with the door card, but I'd prefer if I could get all the parts needed such as the cover and any associated trim that goes ...

Dyno Day at York Automotive 11/13

There is a dyno day at York Automotive in Mt. Airy, MD on November 13. The day is being setup by the area Mazda Club so I don't know if it is open to other makes or not. I'm planning on heading up to find out if I can drop into a better index since the car should be at 100 +/- 5 whp. Complete info h...

So it would appear that EMRA is going to try and have 2 or 3 "practice" or "test and tune" session on Saturday as well at Summit Point along with the Time Trials on Sunday. Anyone interested I think they should have the website updated by the end of the week. Damn. York Automoti...

That mount looks like it could hold a 150lb person in place. I don't think that 10 lbs bottle is going anywhere with that thing.

Re: Lighter wheels or suspension upgrade?

Even if you just do tires or tires and rims, don't forget to get an alignment to take advantage of your new rubber. See http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/tilt/ for some Mini-specific info. This was on a prepared car that likely has much stiffer springs than yours and they still needed a lot ...

Re: EMRA @ Summit Point November 14th

I'd probably have more fun in white group since I wouldn't have to have my arm sticking out the window the entire time and with passing only in the designated areas, I'd just be holding the higher HP cars up for 3/4 of the lap. I think I am going to put this on my calendar and make a point to get so...

Re: EMRA @ Summit Point November 14th

Sounds like I could have fun with these guys and not sweat about the details too much. 200 (reg) + 30 (transponder) + 40 (school) + 30 (license) = 300 That isn't too far off from what I normally pay for a day plus I get accurate timed laps instead of estimating based on video. Am I required to do th...

Re: EMRA @ Summit Point November 14th

I'll be there competing in Miata Challenge. Transponder rental is $35 + refundable deposit. Most people bolt the transponder to their front licence plate, or zip tie to a tow hook/tie down point. You mean I zip-tie my $300 deposit to my tow hook and go racing. That sounds like a recipe for disaster...

Re: EMRA @ Summit Point November 14th

Summit is usually in the $200.00 range for Time Trials. Registration probably won't open until mid October. I will keep you updated on that. Should get 4 - 5 20 minute sessions per group. They are running transponders now so every lap on the track is timed and you best lap of the day counts. Makes ...
