Re: Nasa Mid-Atlantic Events?

Pricing varies a little by location (which track) Here's the VIR pricing https://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1061 Summit Point events are cheaper. NJMP is about the same. If you are new, and don't want to commit to the expense of a full weekend you can do a "Hyperdrive" for $40 or $50. It'...

Re: why don't you see car x autocrossing?

Thoughts? There is a certain demographic that overlaps between the two, that being people looking for exceptionally cheap and basic no frills convertible car for cruising the retirement communities of south Florida, . I thought that's what Chrysler Lebarons were for ? :) and if you really want to i...

Re: why don't you see car x autocrossing?

The Miatas only have VVT on the intake cam, and it's only used to clean up emissions without having to run the precat not really to make HP. They make the same 140 HP as the earlier 1.8L Miatas. They are by no means fast. The older 1.6L cars do have an advantage of less weight and shorter gearing. A...

Re: why don't you see car x autocrossing?

What about a pre 1987 Dodge Daytona turbo? Woody has (or had?) one. It was hilarious. Made all sorts of spaceship noises and had a turbo boost accumulator in the trunk but looked like a real handful to drive, to say the least. Plus they have a tendency for parts to fall off while driving down the r...

Re: Your opinion - which autocrosses did you like/hate?

Personally, I think all you seasoned autoxers are mixing up not being able to drive 10/10 at SP as holding back. It's basically the same as running FedEx in the rain. You need to learn self-restraint. It teaches you how to drive your car in all kinds of conditions, not just ideal ones. I'm NOT sayi...

Re: apologies and thanks to everybody

I am pretty sure the sux@$$ has an exhaust cut-out that can be opened or closed from inside the cabin. This dumps the exhaust after the downpipe, bypassing any mufflers for autoX use. Mike or Jake will have to chime in with the details. Good luck with your turbo install. More power is always a good ...

Re: apologies and thanks to everybody

.... i spoke to them about making the exhaust quieter, with a quieter muffler or adding another muffler or resonator, but they keep telling me it would be a waste of money since it would hurt the power potential of the turbo. and instead of getting smaller quieter exhaust and taking a step backward...

Re: apologies and thanks to everybody

The organizers measured it at Bowie. 110 dB on our noise meter. That only describes the volume of the noise, not the quality of the noise which is subjective. Who knows, maybe some guys like the sound of a dentist drill at 110db ? There are other cars out there too loud for my tastes, but this one t...

having results before the next event, would make for good bragging rights.
Not that I would have any to do. But still fun.

Re: Spa Grand Prix thread

my thoughts is that Brawn, since they were winning, didn't do much development during the season. McLaren has done a lot of development (wind tunnel?) and has caught up. I don't know what Ferrari is doing, not to mention BMW. It's amazing how much the car, rather than the driver plays a role in F1. ...

yeah, the reaction from Michael Schumaker (sp?) was great. I think he was ready to hop in and teach the new guy a thing or two.

I didn't follow it too closely, but I understand the new guy was a Ferrari test driver. Quite different from wheel to wheel racing, i'd imagine.

i am starting to like how it seems like more and more events are being laid out with minimal use of double gates and how the cars can over lap eachother on the runs. while i appreciate the difficulty of the very technical courses, i would just love if there was a little more room to let the ponies ...

they were a stop gap "passive restraint system" before the transition to air bags in all new cars. My least favorite set up was like on GM cars like the Beretta where the seat belt was tied to the door and as you sat down and closed the door you were "buckled in." Of course the m...

As part of the track team for NVCC, I find it highly worrying that you took it upon yourself to "dump" your instructor. Sheikh ok. Maybe it was a bad choice of words. Instructor told me after one session he " didn't feel comfortable at these speeds without a harness and roll bar"...

work assignments

One big grid, might be OK now. Come July & August, it's going to lead to long ( 90 minutes ?) standing in the sun for everyone. I don't know how much people can take before they start to complain about that. I re-read Bugman's post. So it would require us to assign A or B group at registration. ...

a co-worker friend of mine owns one of these things. It's orange. I always expect a circus clown to come out of it, not a fifty something year old, very conservative, engineer type. Anyway, he told me that it wasn't that light. I don't recall the figure, but no lighter than a 1980's CRX or early Civ...
