Re: Weights and WHP - database

In some cases the conversion loss is closer to 20% Here is an example based on a couple of cars Ihave owned: 2002 WRX, advertised 227HP> Actual dyno HP ~ 185 1990 Mustang 5.0 Advertised 225 HP > Actual dyno HP ~ 185 On the other hand, it's well know that a 2004 Cobra Mustang advertised at 390HP make...

" almost walking speed" doesn't belong on an AutoX course ! :)

Re: vintage auto-x pictures

Today we need to sign a waiver, wear a 3 point belt & a safety helmet just to drive 30 MPH in a roped off parking lot in our multiple airbag equipped cars. I guess they didn't have Ralph Nader or trial lawyers back then to get in everyone's business. That's why you could wear a fedora while raci...

Re: Miata question

when I did mine ( 1.6L) I did the "cut old timing belt in 1/2 lenghtwise" trick. Boy that's a mouthful. Anyway, by cutting the old belt lenghtwise, it allowed me to slip on the new belt 1/2 way before actually taking the old belt off. Hence, no possibility of mismatching the cogs. Put hte ...

Re: vintage auto-x pictures

when i was in grade school, our neighbors had a "Le Car."
I know it was "Le Car" because it said "Le Car" right on the side.

Looking at that one photo, it's no wonder they went out of business. Or at least retreated back across the ocean.

I don't have a scanner, so these are photographs of prints. It actually makes them look a lot more "vintage" than they are. My brother and I back when we drove 2002's. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3454/3295502773_0039a7aab7_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3612/3296327098_f134f14b29_...

agreed, i want to run rain/snow/shine  DLB is a good registration site, easy to use and easy to keep track of everything. ... the problem I see with this is that CDC is a volunteer organization. If it's raining out, are we going to get people to show up and have enough course workers to sa...

Would going off into the dirt pose any risk to our cars? probably just wheels, tires, suspension, oil pain and exhaust system if you went straight in. Probably "everything else" if you went in sideways and rolled the car. :x The course will be designed so there is no more danger in going ...

If only it was on the approved list :)

I'm thinking if it's a race car and can't be driven on the street, they probably aren't going to let you compete in the small bore series.

Re: Improvements for CDC Indexing for 2009

Nope. I wasn't being serious. :) However, I do think it's odd that in the overall FTD race it's "anything goes" and whenever someone mentions that certain cars are "not competitive" ( like my Mustang for example) the typical response is "get a faster car" or something a...

let's ban all cars except '02 & '03 WRX's ........ :) The small bore series is going to become a sissies series if we keep restricting what can compete. No vtecs ( too fast), no race tires ( too fast), no rotories (too fast), no turbos (too fast). Let's just have everyone drive around in a 56 HP...

Re: Improvements for CDC Indexing for 2009

I vote keep it simple and fun. This is what CDC autocross is all about Even if that means my Mustang will still run head to head with an S2000. I don't think more complicated indices will lead to "more fun." We have our hands full just getting all the cars lined up on grid, on time, in the...

Re: Improvements for CDC Indexing for 2009

. As for HP, I believe that up to a point, more power doesn't really help you with auto-x. I think the HP categories should look something like this: <100HP: 1.00 101-175HP: 1.01 176-250HP: 1.02 250+HP: 1.03 But that's just my opinion. I don't know about 250+ all being the same. I recently drove a ...

I've got a set of Continental Conti EXtreme contacts on my wRX now. I put these on for the winter months. They can get through light snow and still offer pretty good grip when it's dry and damp. Allthough grip is good, it takes some "re-adjustment" to get used to them after running summer ...

I've autocrossed in the rain before, and it wasn't predicated on whether or not I had "already paid for it." I went because it was something fun to do. What else are you going to do on a rainy day? Go to the mall ? So I don't think prepaying is the solution The solution is just to ke...

Classic Car Show in Rockville 10/18

There's a good car show in Rockville tomorrow. It's at the Rockville civic center mansion.
I've been going to this show since when I lived in Rockville 20+ years ago.

are they reliable sources? it would seem odd as it wasn't too long ago that the Shenandoah circuit was built, and it looks like there is still contruction going on on the property.

that's kind of a let down that the track is breaking up again

Thanks. My car's lighter than yours and I'm running a wing, so I'm most likely taking the corners a bit faster. With about 200 rwhp, I need to keep the momentum in the corners to get a good lap time. I'm also going to sign up for the October NASA event tomorrow for the TT group. Yeah. It's a safe b...

I'll check out your other posting and pictures.
