Should we index for tire width too?

Post by ButtDyno »

Just a quick proposal, splitting from the other thread:
0-235: .99
245-265: 1.00
275-285: 1.01
295+: 1.02
Maybe kill the 250+ penalty, and add this to help make sure things are even?

No. Heavier cars require wider tires. A Miata with 255s would need more of a "penalty" than my Mustang with 255s.

I don't know that we should employ it immediately, but It would be interesting to track throughout the season. Just to see what an effect it would have.

I am for it since I run 225s.... but I think it is too drastic of a change to be made without any testing. Anyone want to go back through the data and see what it would have changed?

They do, it is in the weight index

Weight to tire width is as important as any factor. 3000 lbs on 275s is no big deal, 1500 lbs on 275s is a different matter.

This is my point. Yes, weight is already an index. But if you indexed tire widths, you'd have to have separate indexes for different weights. For instance, running 275s on a Miata might be a 1.02 multiplier, but running 275s on my Muscle-Car/Land-Yacht might be a 0.99.

No, we should not index for tire width. Why mess with the good things of CDC & make it overly complicated? What next, driver weigh in?

Great idea, don't forget to account for different front/rear widths. btw, my Miata is faster on 205's than 225's.

Yes. And if you eat more than one Italian Sausage for lunch, you get an additional 0.99 modifier for the afternoon heats.

I understand your point, but I am saying that the weight index would still make this happen, for instance:

275 tires on miata
1.01*1.02 = 1.03

275 tires on mustang
1.01*.99 = 1.00

Thus giving you your indexes that have weight vs. tire width. Which is what you want in the first place. As I said, it already is included.

No tire index is the same as it has been for about three years.

We will not increase the index for vehicles over 250 hp (e.g. the higher index will have the same index as 250 hp. We'll keep the different drop-down in case we need to change it but because its easier).
