TNT Autocross Saturday Feb 22nd at Harry Grove

Post by echan »

It looks like enough snow has melted at Harry Grove Stadium AND the temperature should be warm enough for us to hold a QUICK Test and Tune Event at Harry Grove Stadium, Frederick, MD this Saturday February 22nd.

THIS EVENT IS A VERY LIMITED FIELD WITH ONLY 13 SLOTS AVAILABLE (in addition to the organizers). NO walk-ons will be allowed, and this event is open to CDC Members ONLY.

The cost is $20 for this event and the number or runs will be subject to weather conditions. We plan to set up, take as many runs possible, then get out before dark/cold.

In addition, here's a few more stipulations for this event:

Unknown number of runs
Participants must help clean up
May involve snow shoveling
No grilling/port a potties
Participants there by 8:30
Cars on course from 9:30 to 3:30 with an hour break for lunch.
Split participants into two run groups. No Heat A/B.

Participants MUST show up to Registration NO LATER THAN 8:30am. This event is totally for fun with a very limited CDC organizer staff in attendance.

Great to hear we're off and running already. I'm down and signed up in the new Miata. This will be the first time we take her out with out rain and a wet lot.(hopefully)

I'm more than happy to help out in anyway I can to make this event happen. Setting up/picking up cones. Snow removal etc...

I didn't plan on having the Miata ready this soon. Going to have to spend some time on Friday evening getting her ready.

Some more info for those attending:

-We will form ONE heat with A/B groups
-Registration & Tech will be in the LOWER lot (no one needs to go to the upper lot unless they are parking to spectate)
-We plan to use an approximate rebuild of this course from last year

You actually got in the field. We are actually taking 15 reservations as a fudge factor of two no-shows. Now only one slot left.

All right, snagged the last spot! Guess I'll be testing out my "new" miata on autocross for the first time. Still in the break-in period for the new clutch I put on my FR-S which means no hard launches, so no autocross for now.

Why did you get a new clutch? It can't have that many miles on it.

The break in period for the clutch that was put in the mini last year was the 140 mile drive from the dealer to Hersheypark so that we could autocross

I just put in a new clutch while upgrading to a much lighter flywheel (10.5 lbs). Old clutch was fine, but I wanted to drop some weight and increase engine responsiveness for doing some time trials later this year with NASA. So I did clutch/flywheel, carbon fiber driveshaft, engine mounts, shifter and differential bushings to tighten things up. Also have a proper diffuser coming in as it was one of the few extra mods I could do to my car while still staying in its base class.

Just a last-minute update. The snow is 99% gone. Some small spots may remain tomorrow. There is also a small amount of debris. We will need everyone's help to get the track clean. Morning runs will be wet, but if we put in some effort, we might get some clean, dry runs by the afternoon. This is why we won't be accepting late arrivals. If you want to run on the dry track, you need to help everyone with the wet one.

So should we show up extra early or does the scheduled time factor in track cleanup?

Organizers will be there around 7:45. If everyone is there around 8:30, that gives us an hour to prep and walk the course before our target time of 1st car off at 9:30. Seems like plenty of time to me, but it certainly wouldn't hurt if some folks want to show up a little earlier.

I'll add that if you need extra time to prep your car then please try to get there a little earlier.

Okay, so apparently break in is only 2-300 miles which I will have by the time I drive out to Frederick, so FR-S it is. Need to get used to driving it after driving the miata all winter.

Great time guys, and good to get all that seat time in before the season ramps up. I learned that my car needs some suspension tuning, so big thanks to Caitlin, Nate, Josh, and especially Danny for the thoughts and suggestions.

This weekend was a complete blast. Great Test & Tune event, Great weather, great people there.

This was my last run in the Miata and my best run of the day at a 47.5. I was stuck in the 48s the rest of the runs.
