2008 CDC Season Ends - Maybe not??
2008 CDC Season Ends - Maybe not??
With the last of the regular autocross events being canceled, the CDC Driver Championship Series and the Small Bore Series is now completed.
The winners are:
2008 Driver Championship Series
First Place with 598 points and 4 FTDs Brian Kar. (4 Passes)
Second Place with 593 points and 2 FTDs Fred Kel (2 Passes)
Third Place with 591 and 3 FTDs Mike Mor. (1 Pass)
1 FTD Denny Mit
1 FTD Laurence Cas
2 FTD Wade Cha
Small Bore Series
First Place with 494 Points Alejandro Avi (Season Pass)
Second Place with 477 Points Dan Kra (8 Passes)
Third Place with 472 Points Phillip Yat (4 Passes)
Fourth Place with 471 Points Steven Saw (2 Passes)
Fifth Place with 398 Points Bryan Rut (1 Pass)
In addition to the free autocross passes, all the above members will also get a digital slot car as a trophy.
Hayes Lewis, an avid slot car enthusiast, and Burrell Spindle, owner of the hobby shop Trains Etc., are building a 1/32 scale slot car set for use at CDC events in 2009. The club will provide slot cars for our participants to race with. The track is built on two 4′ x 6′ panels (4′ X 12′ when assembled) and should provide plenty of entertainment for our participants for the “in between” time when they’re not autocrossing, corner working, or enjoying BBQ. Our winter project is to build a storage space in the trailer for the track so that we can transport it to every event.
Congratulations to all the 2008 winners. We plan to distribute the awards at the winter luncheon (TBD, usually in Jan/Feb).
Winter Test and Tune Days??
Some of us are thinking about have some informal autocross or Test and Tune type events at Harry Grove starting in December. These would be scheduled just a few days in advance (Wednesday or Thursday before the event) if we see that the weather forecast for that Saturday will be relatively warm and dry at Frederick (and assuming the lot is available for rent). These events will be run with fewer cones, no food, no drink, no port-a-potty in an attempt to make setup and clean up as quick and easy as possible. We will run the digital timing system and our backup timing will remain our trusty stop watches. The event will start at 9 or 9:30 am and registration and tech inspection will take place at the lower lot. If and when these events are scheduled, I’ll post them on the forum and send out the mass e-mail to everyone.

Re: 2008 CDC Season Ends - Maybe not??
Guys, Wades a baby, but..FTD stands for fastest time of the day. If your a Cobra guy that's what you want, Wade did it twice at CDC. If you want to honor the fastest indexed time then it is called FITD winners, or GAFCCW, get a faster car class winner.
Re: 2008 CDC Season Ends - Maybe not??
Guys, Wade is totally right. I made a mistake by looking at those getting 100 points, and had a mental block by call that as FTD.FredK wrote:Guys, Wades a baby, but..FTD stands for fastest time of the day. I'll correct the entry.
For now,
Fred Kel FTD 3/30/08
Brian Kar FTD 4/26/08, 7/5/08, 8/2/08, 8/30/08, 9/27/08
Denny Mit FTD 5/10/08
Laurence Cas FTD 6/21/08
Wade Cha FTD 10/11/08, 11/1/08
Sorry. I must be losing my mind!

Thanks Ed, Wade can stop pounding his head against his garage wall asking himself, " why did I spend $1500.00 on new Hoosiers(to beat fred)for CDC".
He can sleep now.

Ed - that's cool! I hope you really did make a mistake and it wasn't Fred's hounding that changed your mind. It doesn't matter to me either way. Kicking Fred's a$$ in raw times is all I really care about.

Re: 2008 CDC Season Ends - Maybe not??
Yes. That was a complete mistake and not a change in how we recognize FTDs. I never intended to change our policy in awards - just a mistake. Over the last 4 years (nothing the first year when we had only 2 events), we always considered FTD with no indexes. I just made the mistake this year. DrSuess will also still recieve a slotcar (for his Indexed FTD).Wade Chamberlain wrote:Ed - that's cool! I hope you really did make a mistake and it wasn't Fred's hounding that changed your mind. Re: 2008 CDC Season Ends - Maybe not??
I got a question for several members asking about a possible December event. Their question is that "there are only 2 weeks left in December. Does that mean we are running out of time?"
We will try to hold a last minute autox in the winter (December, January, February, and March) if we get a warm day. Joe M is verifying with Harry Grove that we would be able to schedule the lot with a couple days notice. He thinks that shouldn't be a problem.
Now we just have to see if we can get a warm day (it's suppose to be super cold this weekend).

36 degree low and 46 degree high is the forecast for Sunday. Monday actually will be 55 degrees. Do you think Sunday is warm enough (looks still below average even)?

Ted, Joe Seward, and I are now brining the timing equipment to check out the range a new site on Sunday. I'll post more news on the complex when we get back.

I know it's a bit far away but some clubs are using the new drift track at Summit.
Re: 2008 CDC Season Ends - Maybe not??
That was the location that we check out with our timing equipment. They had their first event ever there, which was a drift event. It looks like the drift cars already tore up the surface some. Also, Summit is still in process of more construction on the facility.etherpool wrote:I know it's a bit far away but some clubs are using the new drift track at Summit.
As thing gel, I'm post it on the forum and the news section.

I don't think I understand, Ed. Are you looking to use the actual track as in a HPDE or some sort of AutoX? As usual I'm confused.

Summit has a new complex for drifting, karting, and autocrossing. That's what we were checking out to see if it would work for us.Dan133 wrote:I don't think I understand, Ed. Are you looking to use the actual track as in a HPDE or some sort of AutoX? As usual I'm confused.
