Questions on A-Pillar Dent Fix Options

Post by WRX11 »

Has anyone ever needed to get a dent fix on their A-pillars? If so, where, how much, how long, what method was it fixed and would you recommend going the same place?

I am looking for a shop near NoVa or a mobile guy if that's possible.

Thanks.

When in Germany, my civic got hit pretty badly with hail. Some of the dents were on the A-Pillar, and they wouldn't touch it. They said that just by bending the metal back, it could damage the frame. All they said they could do were the fenders, roof, and hood.

I talked to a friend who worked PDR for a couple years, and he said that it was bullshit, and they probably just didn't have the skill. He said it should have cost about 100€ to fix both the A-Pillar and the B-Pillar's dents. I'd assume (probably wrongly) that it could be done for $100.

Have you looked at dent wizard? http://www.dentwizard.com/content/117/c ... _home.aspx

Try DentMasters, they're a bit more local, my neighbor, who is a used luxury car dealer, swears by them. http://www.dentmasters.com/

is this the wrx sti that was struck by the errant unnattended canopy? shouldn't have caused structural damage or anything that pulling a dent off the a-pillar would effect the frame.

i've always used classic auto body in old town Gaithersburg. their work is simply amazing.

^Thanks guys.

It was the car and case above. :( I did went with dent wizard however, the a-pillar dent was at the crease between two flat surfaces and the guy say he couldn't get to it from underneath. He would have tried fixing it if the dent was at a flat surface but it wasn't.

I also went to a body shop and I was quoted $600+ to have a hole drilled in the a-pillar to pop it out. :o But both "places' couldn't work on it for $100, not even close. Later on, I was thinking, why not just do body work on it instead of drilling? :?:

A-pillar is part of the structural support and most if not all cars' are fully encased with no access points like a hood, fender, panel.

HF slide dent puller?

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/D ... umber=5223

$44 bucks and you own the tool, and learn how to pull a dent in the process :)

heres one for $20bones
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... umber=5469

and one for 30:

This isn't rocket science, but filling in the hole you just made in your car and painting it to look good is the hardest part i would think.

Just a suggestion though :P if your going to woodbridge tomorrow, there is a HF right near there.

Thanks but I'd like to avoid drilling all together. Which is why there are no easy solutions. :(

The A pillar is a structural part of the roof. It's ok to straighten the metal to a point. You only want bondo to be 1/4" maximum. If the dent needs to be pulled out I use a tool that welds a stud on the dent and pulls it out without drilling any holes. We can do the repair at my shop probably less than a bodyshop. Give me a call 301 874-6317.

Joe, Thanks for you offer, I'll let you know when I decide what to do with it.

I can't imagine welding a stud be a non-intrusive method as with body work. :( If I have to get it repainted in any way, I am avoiding it right now.
