Did you have the Advans? If so, far from garbage, in the way that they grip. Other than that, they're loud on the street, wear unevenly, terrible ride, etc. But great track tires non the less- except for the price. I will definitely buy the Dunlops again, no questions asked. They may not be the best tire out there, but for the price, you can't beat 'em.

+1 for the star specs. Great tire at a great price.

Agreed. They make the fit handle like a kart with hot tires.

yeah... I was planning on getting some star specs next spring until I saw that they don't make them in 275/**/17 :(

so I'm going with the kumho XSs... the seemingly only decent tire that's made in wide 17" sizes...

I dunno, the XS's were ranked lower than the star specs. I would say that I like the 195/55r15 star specs better than I liked the 205/50 azenis.

yeah, tirerack didn't like them much in their tests but in the grassroots motorsports test they actually placed first which was solely an auto-x test not an all around test like the tirerack test. also take into account though that they were testing it on a civic running 205/50/15s which they don't make in star specs, so the star specs were the wrong size...

I've driven on them in a miata and they seemed a lot better than my azenis, so I'm looking forward to them. But who knows, maybe they might come out with something better or some 275 star specs by spring... if my tires last that long... :P

just looked at the pictures, and you are worried about that wheel lift? that's like an inch.. if you want to see wheel lift, check out some of the more prepared 84-87 civic/crx chassis. because they have a beam axle, somewhat like the fit, they lift a LOT more than that. rear wheel lift isn't that big of a deal with an FWD car unless you notice the loss of traction. it's natural for a fwd car to do so, just like it's natural for some stiffly sprung rwd chassis to lift the front wheel, E36 and 944's come to mind.

oh yeah, my wife will be running next time and i'm BEGGING her to bring out her fit, instead of our miata.. i don't thinks she's going to though.. i will be in my black 91 Si again, and if there are any FAST fwd guys, AJ and guy with RSX, that want to take it for a spin so i can see what it's capable of.. :)

I bought the Kumho XS for my Miata since they had a 225/45/15 size, whereas the others don't for a street tire. Incredible grip. They seem to do well with heat, too. Remember, some tires in the middle of autox season don't fare well with heat, like the Azenis.

For a street Miata tire, I think they definitely deserve a shot.

They do?

The R1R's and RS3's do, but never heard of a Kumho in that size. If they existed they would be very popular...

yeah, not according to Kumho:

hopefully you didn't buy 225/45/17s :?

DOH!!! I've been without my car for awhile and thought it was the Kumho's!! It must be the R1R's, since that was my 2nd choice. I can't go out to the garage to verify, but I think that's what I got. I knew I ordered a non-r-comp tire. Derrr.

Mike! PM me your phone#. I need Megasquirt assistance. I'll probably get Braineack to help, but the more folks that know it, the better for me. I had lots of support w/ the UTEC for my Subaru.

thx,

Ed

I have the 205 kumhos on my miata and really like them. After reading the grassroots article and seeing the price I figured they were the way to go.

I got my old miata for $1100, so I could have gotten 4! but even 4 automatic 1.6 miatas probably wouldn't be as fun as 1 supercharged fit... but you probably couldn't sell that for triple the value like I did with the miata...

The kit you speak of is for the GD3, ie: not my model. It only works with the old fit.

I have been following the supercharger kit very closely, and it seems I always *just* miss out on any cheap power-adders. I keep telling myself that the $/hp for the kraftwerks kit is too high, but I still want it.

I've been looking at picking up a cheap autox car anyways. I've gotten the fit to the point where I'm happy.

Speaking of Miatas.

On craigslist there's a 1992 Miata with a blown head gasket for $700

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/ ... 14560.html

and there's a guy in Silver Spring selling a motor and trans for $350.

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/ ... 72235.html

My guess is that you can get the engine alone for less (possibly $200) and maybe the car for less (possibly $500). Then with some sweat, you can get a Miata for under $1,000.
