I think Ford owns like 30% of Mazda. That could be the reason for some of the confusion here.

In any case, I hope it's their AWD Turbocharged "Focus RS" models that they rally with. That would be awesome. I'll have to compare them against the 08 WRX's whenever those roll out. :)

--------
But really, did any 08 WRX's compete or were they just for " show." I can't think of a better place to gain some buyer interest than to put a good driver in it ( bugbomb), swap on some race tires and dominate all the 02, 03, 04, 05, 06 & 07 WRX models with the new car.

Or maybe Subaru isn't looking for this type of buyer......

anyway, if they could beat Francois' 05 STi, I'd be willing to overlook the chrome bumpers

TurboXS brought the sedan and auto dealer Fitzgerald brought the wagon. They were just on display, no one raced them, although we did try to convince the salesman to let us take it for a test drive on the auto-x course, unsuccessfully I might add. No stock WRX will ever be capable of beating a stock STi, all other things being equal. As for the new STi, we'll have to wait until it's officially released. Regardless of how it looks (Subarus have never been "pretty" cars) I have no doubt the newest iteration will "out perform" the old ones.

That would be my dream job. Unfortunately, I don't think I am that well-qualified for the position.

Back to the office!

I had a blast Saturday and Sunday, and my wife had a great time auto-X-ing for the first time Sunday. When she finished her 3rd morning run (I was "instructing" ) after she parked the first thing she said was "Ok. Where do I take time off?". Awesome. She got into the 48s and was smooth. She even won a pass for a free event entry next year. Looks like my tire budget may have doubled, which is totally cool.

I want to thank the CDC organizers, volunteers, workers, course designers, and many helpful friendly racers for helping make my first season of auto-X so much fun. I made it from habitual off-course over driver to consustant respectable placing considering my bone-stock car. I'm really weary of loading and unloading and swapping tires, but still can't wait for next season.

Thanks for all the warm praise for our finale weekend! Man, it was a blast. I tell you, I was so happy to see so many faces show up to both events.

I'm glad you all liked the shootout. It seriously was a blast. I'm sorry Francois didn't get in...but hey, he's a great sport and is a winner in my book (yeah, I might be saying this to get a co-drive w/ him next year).

How fitting was Mike Moran's post about something something nickel? :P

The guys from Andrewtech (not just Jake Moran and Dan Rockholt) really had fun. So did Mark, Jermaine, and Brandon (who's been to quite a few) from TurboXS. I think they felt it was money well-spent. If you guys enjoyed Sunday's event, please feel free to drop them a call or letter of thanks. I'm sure they'd appreciate and consider sponsorship in the future!

BTW, you Cobra guys: you sure are nice folks...but hey, c'mon! Let us borrow your cars!!!!

(I don't mean the Miatas you two!) j/k!

Look forward to seeing everyone in the future. I seriously need to bum a ride from one of the Cobras....

thanks to the sponsors for the excellent event. My first time out, despite Ed bugging me for literally years. I managed a best of 44.1 in the MINI on Sunday....I think with another three runs I could have knocked another second off that time as the tire pressures were still too high (-2.0 front camber, RE01R's and 45F temps = wheelspin everywhere). A good driver would have done better still in the car

thanks to Ted for the ride-along...clearly, I would not have posted better times each run without you telling me I was driving like a grandma the whole time. :o I know, I know....six clean runs means I wasn't pushing hard enough right?

I updated the Shootout results here:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key= ... o_5aXGKjaw

Fred is the official winner of the season finale shootout. I disqualified myself for illegal tire warming.

I already gave away the free alignment, but I'll buy him one at Andrewtech if he wants it. :)

That's nice of you to offer. I did feel kind of bad that the Andrewtech sponsored car also won the prize. So who was the lucky recipient of your alignment gift certificate?

I was told that I could only give it to a relative, so I gave it to my father. He is getting new struts for his car soon, so he will need it.

Only if we can agree to a car (as opposed to driver) based index system AND have automated score keeping and results reporting to instantaneously tell us who the winner is.
