LAST AX for 2007 Nov 10th & AndrewTechXS TNT Nov 11th

Post by echan »

Saturday November 10th Autocross
Harry Grove Stadium, Frederick, MD is the location of the last CDC autocross for 2007 on SATURDAY November 10th. We will also have a Test and Tune SUNDAY November 11th, sponsored by AndrewTech and TurboXS.

Registration and tech inspection will be at 8:00 and will promptly close at 8:45 to try to accommodate the full field, while still giving 6 runs. You must be DONE by 8:45. So if you arrive at 8:00 you won't have a problem. Don't arrive at the last minute.

The event fee for the Saturday autocross is $25 for members and $35 for non-members at this event.

Sunday November 11th Test and Tune Day with AndrewTech and TurboXS
We will run our final Test and Tune event of the season on Sunday, November 11 at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, MD. Thanks to generous support from sponsors AndrewTech and TurboXS this event will be a little bit different:

1. Field is limited to approximately 50 participants with about 5 organizers (for a total of 55 vehicles).
2. Times will be announced and recorded on the timesheet, but no results, no points, and no indexes will be posted –This is only for fun
3. No extra runs if we miss a time – This is only for fun
4. The format will be 2 heats with 5 morning and afternoon runs (number of runs in the afternoon will depend on time and weather conditions. We hope to give at least 8 runs with a shoot-out for the 10 fastest cars in the end.
5. With AndrewTech and TurboXS sponsorship, the entry fee will only be $15 per participant (member and non-member).
6. We will not be using the same course as the day before but one that will be novice friendly. We'll also have instructors on hand. So if you've never autox'd but want to try, this is a perfect event for you and probably the cheapest event you'll see anywhere.

All 50 slots will be given on a first come, first serve basis.

New On-line Reservation System
We now have an on-line reservation system at the new web address (the old one will re-direct you for now but only for a limited time).

capitaldrivingclub.com

Member reservations (or participants that will join the club upon showing up) for any events can be made at any time. Open reservations for non-members for this event begin Friday November 2nd.

Who ever thought of the test n tune idea with the shootout is a genius. I think I'm more excited about it than Cumberland tommorrow! Now I just have to decide..miata? or cobra? hmmm, think I'll take a few runs in the cobra.

Fred, that would be me (Ed O'Donnell, who wants to still drive your Cobra....or Miata).

Thanks! You can't beat $15 for an autocross event.

IF ANYONE CANNOT GET IN...let me know. Andrewtech and TurboXS have a few slots reserved for them. I can put you on their list.

Ditto....you should drive a Miata as well. If you would like to co-drive with me, I've got one.

The weather is looking interesting for Saturday. Cold and wet. Perfect Cobra weather. :)

If things keep up like this, it's probably good that we don't have a December event planned. It would end up looking like this.

Wait, is that a bad thing?

I hope it does not rain. I ended up having to take the MSP to cumberland because of the rain and I was hoping to get the miata out and burn off the last bits of inside tread on the old RT-615's before I mount up the bridgestones next year.

According to Capital Weather
Saturday

Lingering AM light rain and raw. Some spotty light rain (mixed with snow well N&W and in elevated areas) is possible early in the morning as a coastal storm forms that will drag a weak boundary through the area early. Afternoon temperatures will not warm considerably, struggling to reach the upper 40s in most spots as skies slowly break. Breezes will only be moderate but you may want the scarf after our now-early sunset!

Overnight, we dry out, clear off, and maintain a moderate breeze. Low temperatures downtown won't dip below the high 30s, but some outlying spots will touch the low to mid 30s.

Sunday

Partly sunny, dry. Skies will finally show some blue, but clouds will mix in -- especially during the afternoon. Temperatures will probably pierce the 50 degree mark and possibly hit 55, south of town. Winds will settle and I'd say our best day of the weekend is to be had this day. Happy Veteran's Day! Perhaps some real fall-like weather will show up, or will it...?
According to National Weather Service
Saturday: A chance of showers, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. North wind between 5 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. Light north wind.

Veterans Day: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. Calm wind.

Totally unofficial just for fun not remotely scientific PAX results based on me and Mike's memory of events:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key= ... tN87nb_wCQ

Good times. And it looks like after ~350-400 runs and 80K miles, almost half of that with three degrees of negative camber or more, I have finally killed a front wheel bearing.

Going to update that when the results come out? I had a 47.90 PM.

Todays shootout was intense! Congrats to Mike. I love the concept of competition at these events. Its the first time I've seen that may people present at the end of the event. Its a shame I wont be making any top 5 shootouts anytime soon. Its still fun to watch.

Agreed. That was probably the most climactic way to end the season. I heard from several people that it was a lot of fun to watch, and I really wish I could have watched it myself. I didn't get much time to see other people run.

I think CDC should do at least 3 of these next year.

Today was a great way to wrap up the season. I'm dead tired so I will post more later but I did manage to get the first batch of photos uploaded to Flickr. I would like to thank everyone who attended and especially our generous sponsors Andrewtech and TurboXS who's support made this day possible. Congrats to Mike Moran for winning the shootout against all odds. I hope to see you all again next year. In the meantime keep an eye on the CDC website and this discussion forum for fun off-season activities, gatherings, and friendly chat.

I took a picture of the shootout results if anyone is interested. If Buttdyno wants to do unofficial PAX results, some people might have had faster times earlier in the day. I know Fred ran a 38.39 in the afternoon runs. Jake's best was a 39.7.

Driver Run #1 Run #2 Total Diff/Next Diff/1st
Mike 39.24 38.60 77.84 - -
Fred 39.08 39.12 78.20 0.36 0.36
Laurence 39.99 39.24 79.23 1.03 1.39
Brian 40.31 39.42 79.73 0.50 1.89
Wade 40.75 39.05 79.80 0.07 1.96
Jake 40.90 40.54 81.44 1.64 3.60
