2010 Indexes

Post by echan »

As we did last year, we will open to discuss/vote any changes people want on the index values at the awards lunch. We should have the lunch in February at Roy's Place Restaurant in Gaithersburg, MD. I'll let you know the date as soon as a finish the trophies.

http://www.roysplacerestaurant.com

The current indexes are as follows:

Tire Multiplier
Street Tires = 1.00
R-Compound Tires With Treadwear Rating 100 - 139 = 1.02
R-Compound Tires With Treadwear Rating < 100 = 1.035

Horsepower Multiplier
100 HP or less = 0.99
101 to 150 HP = 1.00
151 to 200 HP = 1.01
201 to 250 HP = 1.02
251 to 350 HP = 1.03
Over 350 hp = 1.04

Vehicle Weight Multiplier
Vehicle weight < 2,000 lbs = 1.02
Vehicle weight 2,000 to 2,500 lbs = 1.01
Vehicle weight 2,501 to 3,000 lbs = 1.00
Vehicle weight 3,001 to 3,500 lbs = 0.99
Vehicle weight > 3,500 lbs = 0.98

I think we pretty much beat to death if we should have any indexing, limit r-compound tires, require spec tires, etc for the small bore series. The concensus seems to be to leave small bore open to all tires. However if anyone wants to bring up changing small bore, the floor will be open.

Overall, I think the indexes worked pretty well last year. However, I can imagine someone will crunch the numbers and let us why some of the values should be changed.

IMO small bore is just fine the way it is. It's pretty fair for a few cars to run comptetively and that's about the best It'll get it. But, my vote isn't worth very much I suppose since I won't be running it again at all this year.

Looks good to me. I also agree that Small Bore should be kept the same. I think we debated the r comp too much in small bore considering that it was more of an attendance award. Since AJ, Edwin and quite a few others would probably have won it without r comps if they showed up more.

yeah half of winning is showing up...fortuneatly and unforuneatly, CDC holds a lot of events and that mixed with other clubs equals $$$$ on entry fees and wear/tear parts :(.

Agreed-- Leave it alone with the exception of an AJ/Fred/Frank multiplier of 1.05. Just to be fair...

That's a real good solution and not too much calculation is involved. Genius!

Indexes are good. No sense on over-complicating things that are easy to understand.

Off topic - but... Are we interested in doing a yearly tech inspection? We could do up the stickers for free, and put them on cars. Not sure what the liability on something like this would be, but i know it would be great for those polar bear sleepers like me who gotta drive an hour ish to some of the events.

Thanks!

Maybe it is because I suck, but I am fine the way it is. I just like showing up & racing and having a good time to blow off some stress from the week and annoying folks with my veggie dogs, lol. The tech inspection is really basic and only takes a couple minutes plus it helps to keep things in check. I think more time could be saved with the advanced payment idea with less safety risk, although I certainly don't mind the status quo on that either. Looking forward to the lunch, will it be on a weekend I assume?

Annual techs are used by several groups for autocross and road racing, NRR @ Cumberland , NASA, SCCA to name a few. I'd like it.

I think annual techs should only be allowed for people who trailer their cars. Most who trailer don't swap tires and probably don't drive the car all the time on the street. Just seems much more reliable that way. Just my opinion on that though.

AJ,
Great idea, that's even better. I do change wheels pretty much every day though.

Seems fair to me, as always.

I always get confused, is it wheel or crank HP that we are supposed to put down for indexing purposes.

That confused me at first as well. It is supposed to be at the wheel. Initially i was using Mazda's figures which of course are measured from the crank. For me I doubt it has made any noticable difference.

Wouldn't 5.01 for the same people be better? :D

Could we keep you at 5.01 no matter what tires you run? :P

I think WRX's and STi's should not be allowed, and if they are, an automatic 5 sec addition to time.

I'll get over the bitterness, I swear. ;)
