Lifelong Goal
Lifelong Goal
Many of you may not have known this, but it has been an almost lifelong goal of Mike Morans to make the "Wall of Fame" at the Cumberland Autocross. This is an honor reserved for the few, particularly in the past few years, as the competition has become quite fierce. Their is only one way to get on the Wall.... FTD. With the modifieds, Reynard FC's,a few fast Cobras, and all other manner of speedy things competing.
Mike has been close several times only to see his hopes dashed at the last minute. This weekend he finally did it, and it was a fast crowd indeed. His second to last run on Saturday was quite enough, but he coned. He had one final run in the 4th heat to do it..the crowd went wild.
So next time you are at the Runway Cafe at the Cumberland Airport check out the wall...you can say you knew him when. It's a pretty select group, and not many more names will be added to the list. Congratulations Mike!

And he did it by 0.05 seconds...

Re: Lifelong Goal
Congrats, Mike. I was totally in the dark on your times. Being at station 3 kept me from being able to hear the announcers. Cumberland is certainly a blast. Competition was very tight in BSP as well.
Edit...didn't realize the results are up.

Re: Lifelong Goal
As I said before ... Congrats!
The outside-the-car view didn't give me a great idea of the actual course, but it did give me awesome audio from the timing tent going wild

Nice job Mike
I'm sad I wasn't there. Hopefully I'll be there the next time you get FTD

Re: Lifelong Goal
Great job Mike! I always knew you were a fast driver and to earn FTD in a old junker Subaru against real race cars is quite a feat! Congratulations

Re: Lifelong Goal
I'd like to add my congratulations to the well-deserved heap.
It was great to be there to witness it, and even more fun to contribute to Mike's delinquency on the night before, his birthday. Like a true champion, he shook off the debauchery to get it done and take FTD the next day.
To the CDCers that have not yet made the pilgramage up to CBE, its better than ever.
Finally, kudos for the very classy nod to Mike, Fred.

Re: Lifelong Goal
P.S. For those of you who have not yet made the pilgramage to Cumberland, you don't know what you are missing. Its better than ever.
What Fred is perhaps too modest to say is that he was the fastest Cobra in Friday night's "Devil's Duel" elimination shootout, making it all the way to the finals, and defeating some very fast people along the way, including Mike and Jason Becker. Brian Karwan squeaked past him to take King of the Hill by a mere .018 seconds.
We are privileged to run with fine folks like Mike and, yes, Fred.

Great job Mike! I haven't been to Cumberland for a year, but the last two events are musts on my remaining schedule.

I won't be able to make the Sept 18/19 event, but I plan on being there for the last event of the season. It really was fun, the atmosphere was laid back, and people were great.

Re: Lifelong Goal
Thank you all for your support. My greatest desire this year (and several past) was to get a picture of my crappy Subaru up on that wall. I really wanted to make it happen before someone creates an unstoppable, Bowland-like racer that makes it out to Cumberland on a regular basis. The Reynards are difficult enough to catch off-guard.
Thank you, Fred, for starting this topic here. It's the least you can do after smashing my hopes of winning the devil's duel on my birthday. Lesson learned. Never assume that Fast Freddie has maxed out.
