tech days

Post by hepcatz »

Has anyone set up a tech day previously? How did it go? I attended one last night and really enjoyed it, especially using a lift. Would other members be interested in something like a tech day, even if low key?

It seems that the only events with somewhat decent attendance are the auto-x and T&T events. To be honest, track day, rally, group drive, go-kart and other events have had pretty dismal attendance in the past. Pete G hosted a pre-HPDE tech session last year or the year before that and 1 person showed up. Understandably, there has been little motivation to host more events like it. CDC doesn't own a vehicle lift and we have not made arrangements to rent a lift elsewhere. The single marque clubs have it a little easier there because the dealerships have a vested interest in supporting marque afficionados.

That being said, I encourage any and all members to volunteer to host events, even if they are informal like a BBQ/ tech day in someone's driveway or a pancake breakfast to watch F1. I met some of my best friends this way.

In another month I will be garage-less :( so I can't do a tech day at my house, however I might come up with something to see if folks would be interested in a non-event meet of some sort in NOVA. Maybe I'll contact some independant shops on a tech event idea? PBC?

I wouldn't mind hosting a tech day. It would have to be at my brothers garage. I can show you that you dont need a lift. Most things can be done without. Most race shops dont have lifts anyway.

Very true Jake! I've been using jack and stands for years. If you would like to set up a tech event, I'd be happy to help. Let me know & I can give you my contact info.

Sounds cool! I've gone to the mscw ones & enjoyed them. In about 2 weeks things will mellow out for me & I'll spend some time to come up with a meet idea. If anyone has any suggestions or help let me know.
