SCCA Club Trials and PDX at Summit Point Shenandoah Oct 31 N

Post by Jim Harris »

"Autocrossing" on an open track, no cones.

Registration is open at DLB Racing:

http://www.dlbracing.com/default.aspx

Lots of choices about how to participate. I'm doing the combined PDX/Time Trial on Sunday. But you can do both days, or Saturday PDX only.

I'll definitely look into this. Perhaps even have the MR2 partially built so that it can make it's maiden voyage that day.

Jim any idea how much track time you get if you sign up for TT only on Sunday? I saw where there is a PDX/TT or a TT only option.

I'm not sure, Dave. It won't be a ton of track time.

I recall doing that last Spring, I think, and I had two 20 minute sessions and three time trial sessions. Fred and I had the track to ourselves and about six-seven other cars.

Right now, registration is light, so it may be a repeat of that experience. I signed up for the whole day just to make sure.

Cheers,

Jim

This from their discussion board...

REGISTRATION IS CLOSING ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 26!!!

Hey there, Track
Fans. Registration for the final 2009 WDCR SCCA Performance Driving
Experience and Club Trial event of the season is now open.
The format for this weekend (October 31st- November 1st) will be split into
a full-day PDX on Saturday (along with a a Halloween party!), and a
split PDX and Club-Trial day on Sunday. Sunday's PDX will be slightly
abbreviated which is why costs are slightly less. We are NOT charging
more for the Party afterwards! Costs for the event are as follows:
* PDX and Halloween Party (10/31 ONLY) $225.00
* PDX ONLY Sunday, (11/01 ONLY) $175.00
* PDX and Halloween Party Saturday and Sunday (10/31 and 11/01) $350.00
* Club Trials Only Sunday 11/01 $100.00
* Combined Two-day PDX and Club Trials and Halloween Party $400.00
* Combined PDX and CT Sunday ONLY $225.00
* Instructors who teach on Saturday and Sunday who wish to participate in Club
Trials will pay $50.00
* Instructors who teach on Sunday only and wish to participate in the Club
Trials $75.00Are you coming to the Halloween PDX/CT weekend at Summit Point
Shenandoah Circuit? Don't be scared, click here to register now to drive,
instruct or work,
and join us after the PDX on Saturday October 31st for a Halloween
themed get together including a grilled dinner, fiendish games and
devilish contests for haunted prizes including 2 free 2010 PDX entries and 1
free 2010 CT entry!

FOOD
Dinner will be dug up just after the last car off the track. Food
typical of a graveyard grill, dogs and burgers with all the fixin’s.
Side's, dessert's and drinks will be provided as well.

CAR DECORATING CONTEST
The fun will start with a car decorating contest! After you finish on
track let the good times roll! If people can dress their pets for
halloween we should be able to dress our cars. You may decorate your
car anyway you like, you can disguise it as a pumpkin, dress it in a
hula skirt and coconuts, turn it into a bunny rabbit whatever you
like. Create the best car costume and win an entry into a 2010 PDX event!
Judging will be based on creativity, and over all effect. Open to all PDX/CT
participants and workers in 2009.

THE BIG WHEEL VS. THE GREEN MACHINE
Meanwhile, on the Deserted Staging Lane, those who dare can register
for the ultimate child’s ride-on grudge race. The 2009 Big Wheel vs
Green Machine Challenge! A bracket style elimination drag race pitting your
choice of ghostly ride-on, Big Wheel or Green Machine
against your competitor. Helmets required, flagged start, 50 ft. race,
16 entrants maximum, sign up available inside the registration room.
Must be a participant, instructor or worker in the PDX/CT weekend to
enter.

May the best ghoul win.... a 2010 CT entry for being the top eliminator the Big
Wheel vs. Green Machine Challenge!

BOBBING FOR APPLES
If car decorating or ride-on racing has you scared stiff, feel free to
go bobbing for PDX's. It's a good old fashioned tub of water filled
with apples.... with one very special one. It may be bitter sweet, but
that green apple will get you a free 2010 PDX entry!

PIN THE BLACK FLAG ON MATT
And if that’s not enough to scare up a good time, a prickly game of Pin
the Black Flag on Matt! That’s right, a somewhat life size pin board of
Matt Yip our Zombie Leader will be posted and when its your turn we put
the “blindfold” on you, then take your best stab at hitting Matt with
the black flag! Flag Matt correctly and win a vintage PDX T-Shirt, or some other
prize TBD. While supplies last!

WDCR SHENANDOAH CIRCUIT CLUB TRIAL RECORD
If
you make it through the night, join us for the PDX/CT on November 1. At
stake is the 2009 WDCR Shenandoah Circut Club Trial Record, anda framed
commemorative trophy for the record setter to be awarded at the event! The
current record is held by Fred Kelly with a time of 1:39.773 in his FFR Cobra at
the Club Trial held on April 4th 2009.

Well, that was fun. The CDCers acquited themselves well. I did spin the car at the end of the backstraight, but no harm was done.

When all was said and done, Fred had remembered beer and I had remembered to turn in our transponders.

Note to self: there is no point in signing up for both the PDX and the Club Trail on Sunday. You get an extra practice session if you also pay for the PDX, but you don't really need it.

Looking forward to doing it again next spring.
