Shenandoah Track Video

Post by TubeDriver »

This is the track that CDC will run an HPDE in 2008.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2gSGRkvNlQ

It gets a little more interesting at the 3:00 mark when the Silver S2000 with the funny looking body kit enters the video. ;)

BTW, CDC members interested in a HPDE please post here so we can gauge how many members to expect.

I am interested depending on cost/event and day of week. I'd like to take my 6er out for some gentle lapping in the novice group.

We will probably be shooting for a weekend event. Cost is still to be determined but standard costs are ~$200 for one day or ~300 for two days, I expect the costs to be in that range.

We would have 4 run groups (Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced/Instructor groups) with all Beginner and Novice groups having in car instruction.

HPDE allow you to push your car as hard as you feel comfortable. No one will make you go faster than you want, similar to an autoX. The video I showed was of the Instructor group at an S2000 HPDE so it is a bit faster than student groups.

that was a really nice sounding S2000. But was it automatic or does Honda now use the " F1" transmission like Ferrari ? He sure seemed to be shifting and blipping the throttle without ever taking his hands off the wheel.

here's another look at the track from my incar:

and here's a look trackside following " Book Em's" car:

I'm not sure if my new track car is designed for such a tight track, but I will consider going for a CDC event.

If we need some additional instructors I can check with a few guys on the Focus board that run with us when we are there. They have instructed at 2 or 3 events I have run up there.

cool video; but were you driving while handcuffed ? ;)

seriously, try to relocate to 10 -2 and shuffle steer, so you are aways in position to make any needed, unexpected steering correction

What kind of car were you driving ?

I have been scolded on my hands numerous times.

That was my Grey Focus I AutoX with.

That was actually my first day on the track and I think that was my 2nd run or 3rd run. A couple of the Focus guys worked with me all day on Saturday to get my hands right. I was better by the last run Sunday but still need to work on them.

I think I ran a 1.48.795 as a fast lap.

I'll be there if it is Spring or Fall. Not too interested in pants and sleeves in mid-summer.

that's a quick time around Sheandoah. Very quick for your first day. Well done.

How'd you get it measured to the 1/1000 of a sec?

It was a Redline Track event. They gave us timers at the start of the day so I am not sure how they did it.

There is coverage of the event in the DSport magazine on the shelves now. I got mentioned for finishing 1st in Unlimited FWD.

That was a practice time. I think my offical time was 1.49.085 on tires that were starting to cord. Once I got done with the day I needed new tires. I think with better rubber I could have been in the .47 range.

Here's a good look at the track:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gDgh_F1iQk

as seen from the front bumper of my WRX. This was my first weekend on Shenandoah in 2006, so the line may not by textbook. ;) But you can hear my instructors comments about what's good or not.

I added some "pointers" and "landmarks" on this video, as I made it for my younger brother. He's never been on Shenandoah and we'll be out there on May 3/4 with SVTOA. The passing zone after T5 "the hammer" sometimes is not open in the beginner groups. The other two are as seen in the video. Bridge straight, pass on the right and front straight, pass on the left ( after T13)

The first time I was on SHenandoah, it took me two sessions just to completely memorize the track. So watching videos can definitely help out.

Gonz,

Some good pointers and landmarks, especially on bridge straight. It's important to stay to the left side of the track as you crest the hill after the bridge and using the tall tree to line up for entry into the Karussel are very good tips.

Entering the Karussel the first time can be a little unnerving, but once you've done it a couple of times it's a blast!
