So I found a new good local brew. In preparation for season premier of Whale Wars, I picked up some nautical themed snacks including Heavy Seas Loose Cannon beer by Clipper city brewery. Man, really good hoppy stuff!

Their other brews are good too: Small Craft Warning, Holy Sheets, Marzhon. Loose Cannon is still the best though, a very hoppy ipa.

For a guy that loves cheap things, this is rather surprising. Me, I rock a simple bud light/miller light.

Yeah, the cheapness tends to be replaced by snobbery when it comes to food/beer/wine and I go for quality.

there are so many good local beers that it is a shame to not try as many as possible... burp.. I enjoy trying new beers every chance I get(not as often as I'd like). It seems that every little town has their own brew and so many are tasty that it is a shame to not try different beers whenever possible. I suppose that this qualifies as a good life philosophy... but can become amazingly complicated in application.

I have a nice american style Pale Ale and a raspberry/blackberry wheat in fermenters right now in preparation for a big neighborhood party in a few weeks, and another Pale Ale in the keg.

Thats awesome ... I am almost finished my raspberry wheat and a darker Belgian ale. Carbonating in the bottle is a honey wheat beer that I experimented with a little ... hopefully it comes out drinkable.

I have brewed a couple IPA's, but not for a bunch of batches ... I think that will be next.

bottles? Ugghh. In developing my brewing hobby, there were two distinct improvements that made it much more enjoyable for me. First was biting the bullet and switching from extract to all-grain. This was a *HUGE* step up in the quality of my finished product. Second was switching to 5 gallon soda kegs instead of bottling. Only 1 big container to clean/sanitize instead of 54 little ones, and a fraction of the time and mess of bottling. The bonus is you can force carbonate as quickly as 1 day if you want to, and you can even change the level of carbonation up or down to your liking. Obviously a larger commitment on the equipment side, but if you're really into the hobby, it's well worth it.

I would love to brew with all grains, I just don't have the space in a condo to store all the equipment nessisary. Similarly, I don't really have enough room for a kegorator. I am thinking about getting one of those mini kegorators that uses the 5L kegs and putting my beer into them. Its also a cost issue right now, honestly. I have been brewing for a couple years and have really gotten into it the past year.

Agreed...some are really bad. I do a 2-stage fermentation, so by the time the beer goes in the keg, it's crystal clear. And by force carbonating instead of using priming sugar and bottles, it stays clear. No sediment! Not a big hefe fan though..sorry.
