Bought a '93 Corolla as a Bad-Weather Vehicle...

Post by Sky Render »

So this guy I work with bought a new beigemobile honda accord. His previous vehicle (a '93 Toyota Corolla wagon) was going to go to the crusher because the dealer didn't want it as a trade and he didn't have room for it. I'm buying it from him for $200. It has 167,000 miles and had all its maintenance done (he's got the records to prove it). No smoke on startup, the oil is clean, the antifreeze (while dirty) doesn't have any oil in it. The car idles smooth and shifts smooth (it's an auto). The tires have at least 15,000 miles left on them. The engine is the 7-something-or-other 1.8L I4 (sorry, folks, I'm not a toyota guy yet). It needs new rear shocks, a wheel bearing (maybe), and whatever else the MD inspection station decides to make up.

So, did I get a good deal? And what's a good online forum/community for these cars in case I have questions about it?

I'm just stoked I won't have to try to navigate snowy roads with my Mustang...

the 1.8L is a 7afe :)

yeah, you got a great deal, I bought my '89 corolla for $600 6ish years ago. But really, what $200 car that runs isn't a great deal :P

You should run it in small bore hahaha

also, your subject says "camry"

Fixed the listing. Corollas last forever. I had one that went 265K miles. The motor and transmission were still running strong when it went to the crusher. It died due to electrical issues.

My small bore corolla has 240k on it.... the original engine died at around 230k, but that was probably my fault.

Dang, then I got at least another 100K out of this thing.

I picked up a repair manual on my lunch break today. It's no wonder these cars last forever; they're ridiculously easy to work on. Here's to hoping the MD inspection station doesn't invent a bunch of stuff wrong with it.

My RS Impreza has 290k on it! It is getting autocrossed this weekend. I expect it to go another 200k unless rust takes over or a deer ends it.

The driver's seat belt is a little bit frayed. I have a feeling it will fail inspection for that. Any ideas where to get another one and how much it would cost? Is a junkyard a viable option?
