All,
I have been doing some research on wheels to put some racing tires on and was looking to stick to the standard OEM sizing for my 2011 Subaru WRX (235/45 R17). What has been baffling my mind is the calculations of tire size to wheel size, offset being one of the critical measurements. I had found a wheel calculator at http://www.1010tires.com and was wondering if someone may be able to explain to me how they are getting their results and what do these results mean to the car and its performance?
The 2011 Subaru WRX OEM wheel is 17x8.0 with an offset of +53mm. I am looking at getting a set of O.Z. Alleggerita HLT 17x8 with an offset of +48mm. The results of the calculations are, inner clearance = 5mm more (inside of wheel to strut housing) and outer position = 5mm extended (position of the outside edge of wheel). My concern is to not accelerate the were and tear on my suspension due to incorrect offset as well as making the car harder to handle.
Any opinions?
Thanks

Re: Wheel and Tire Tech
5mm difference will hardly be noticeable. It definitely won't affect tire or suspension wear
those wheels should be fine.
those wheels should be fine.

Re: Wheel and Tire Tech
Concur. 5mm will not be noticeable and shouldn't even have much of an effect on scrub radius.
