Fairfax County Personal Property Tax for Antique Vehicles

Post by echan »

I got my Personal Property bill last week and discovered that Fairfax County has been charging me too much money for many years.

To make the long story short, it turns out that if your car is registered with the DMV as an antique, Fairfax County will waive the $33 registration fee ($38 for vehicles over 4,000 pounds) and charge only $.01 per $100 for vehicle value.

For all these years, I've been paying $33 or $38 for my antique vehicles. I call the County today (703-222-8234) The Jensen Healey is valuable at $4800, which turned out that my person property for that car is now only $0.18 compared to $116.36).

So if you live in Fairfax County and your vehicle is tagged as an antique, you should not be paying the $33 registration fee and your tax rate is only $0.01 per $100 for vehicle value.

Hmmm, now I must go look up the rules for antique vehicles. Good catch.
