Post by Tim.R »

I'm looking for a good shop to build me a 5.0/331 stroker engine for my Mustang. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks,

McNews Automotive in Dillsburg, Pa is one of the best Ford shops around.

They do all kind of work on Mustangs, Focus, ect.

Bobby McNews does all the work and his brother Ray is the tuner. They built and tuned my Focus.

They are just north of Gettysburg by the way. About 45 minutes to an hour north of Frederick.

I suggest Larry at C & M Machine Shop on Route 1 in Alexandria, VA (North of Ft. Belvior and South of Mt. Vernon Hwy). Larry has been building engines for probably over 30 years. He seems to be super careful when building a motor.

I know of only one motor that has ever had a problem with a C & M motor when recently my friends Austin Healey Sprite motor smashed two intake valves at Summit Point at the Turkey Bowl a couple of weeks ago. Larry took the head back and appears to be taking care of it.

Other than that, I've never heard of any other problem motors. Overall, I think no matter what machine shop, I've always heard of at least one bad experience.

My understanding was that C&M didn't like doing high-performance builds as there are too many complications from using parts from various suppliers and they've had trouble in the past with unhappy customers.

My friend Pete is a top bracket racer with his '69 Camaro and his Altered Dragster. He wholeheartedly recommends Precision Engine Machine in Hyattsville, MD.

Thanks for the links. I think I'll give Precision Engine a call and see if they can price up my build.

I haven't used them (I build my own), but several of the guys in the cobra club have used Precision, and as far as I know, they're all happy w/ the work.

Gunther's Machining & Rebuilding in Walkersville has a good rep with the vintage Ford V8 people. I've never used him myself but several people I used to know had him build both stock & hi-po sdmall bloccks & FEs successfully. The only caveat was that his paperwork sucks & get everything in writing. Alex
