Felipe Massa qualifying wreck

Post by flohtingPoint »

Not sure if anyone saw this, but yesterday, during the Hungarian qualifying, Massa went off course into a barrier after a spring from the suspension of Barrichello's Brawn came loose and caromed off Massa's cockpit and striking his helmet. He was critical yesterday but doctors predict a good outcome.

Massa, who has been Ferrari's number 2 driver since joining with the team in 2006, will most likely miss the rest of this season. Felipe, who battled toe to toe in last years exciting 1 point difference season with Hamilton, will hopefully make a full recovery and be back in the drivers seat next year.

Saw that, hope he has a speedy recovery. Goes to show there are a multitude of possible dangers in racing other than crashing.

Whats crazy about this is when I saw of it, I immediately thought of Ayrton, then I learned that the spring that caused the accident came from Senna's protege, Barrichello.

What a shame. I haven't seen hardly any F1 this season but it sucks when a driver is injured. The incident also reminds me of Henry Surtees. I recall when I once drove an open wheel, open cockpit car how exhilarating it was and how exposed I felt. Even the newest F1 cars can't save a driver from debris bonk on top of the head.

Looks as though the Massa incident now has Schumi back in F1. One can only wonder how much his skills have declined with his years off from the sport.

You earned coolness points for your message on your car today relating to this! Of course I took a pix.

Looks like Schumi wont be taking Massa's place after all. All of this spells trouble for a floundering Ferrari team.
