HPDE Summit Point, WV Monday, April 28th, 2008
Capital Driving Club and N.E.R.D. Racing High Performance Driver Education (HPDE)
Interested in driving your own car at the track? Looking for expert, one on one instruction on high performance driving skills? Whether you are a complete track noobie or experienced HPDE veteran, we offer a driving group to match your abilities and experience.
Capital Driving Club and N.E.R.D. Racing are teaming up to present an HPDE program that is designed to provide experienced instructors to those who want a chance to learn high performance driving skills at the track. Our program provides a safe and secure setting to begin to explore your vehicles dynamics as well as your own driving abilities. Please check out Capital Driving Club’s partner N.E.R.D Racing’s website at:
http://www.nerd-racing.com
HPDE events are not racing. Cars on-track operate under strict “rules of engagement” which minimize the likelihood of dangerous encounters with other cars. Passing among participants is facilitated and strictly enforced only within defined “passing zones”, and then only with clear hand signals and instructor confirmation.
HPDE’s encourage participants to have “FUN”, drive within their ability and improve their car-control skills with each event. Instructors and staff evaluate each student’s progress throughout the event, and make recommendations on the student’s advancement through successively higher driver groups.
Our program is self paced and individualized (you learn at your own pace with your own specific instructor). All drivers are placed in a group with other drivers of similar skill/experience level. All types of cars are commonly seen, everything from Hyundais to Ferraris. All you need is a car in good shape, a helmet and a willingness to learn.
The CDC/NERD Racing April 28th event will be held at Summit Point Shenandoah. Shenandoah is a challenging but fun roller coaster, ~2 mile road course with ~18 turns. The one day event fee is $200 (Registration before April 14th). This even is being limited to approximately 55 students who register which allows us to run small group sizes and maximize actual seat time. Class room instruction is included and will supplement track time.
For more information, please go to http://www.capitaldrivingclub.com/hpde

Re: Shenandoah Track Video
Jen and I are both interested in attending the April 28th HPDE.
Jake might be interested as well. Is it possible or advisable for two drivers to run the same car in different sessions?

Two people can share a car. I do it all the time with Barrie. If you and Jen ran the same car we would put Jen in Group 1 (beginner group) and you in Group 2 (beginner and Intermediates). It would be very hard to have 3 people run unless you one of you is an experienced (15+ track days), solo track driver who could ran in the advanced group (no instructors for this person).

That should work well then. Jen wants to run her own car and Jake and I will trade off with the L.
None of us would qualify for the advanced group, though.

Is anyone bringing a Hot Lap Timer Transponder?
I've got the receiver and display, but not a transponder.

According to the HPDE Information Packet, "Timing / scoring is prohibited at this driving school. This event is a driver education school NOT a race school."Tim.R wrote:Is anyone bringing a Hot Lap Timer Transponder?

Kyle is correct. Timing at HPDE events violates the terms of our insurance policy. Timed events (ie races require more more insurance). Every HPDE club/Organization that I know does NOT allow timing (otherwise it becomes a Time Trial or race). So please join us but leave the Transponder turned off.

Re: HPDE Summit Point, WV Monday, April 28th, 2008
Group 4 is the Instructor Group. We currently have 19 Instructors confirmed although not all have entered their info onto the CDC site. I am still getting instructor registrations each week so I expect about 25-30 instructors total which will give us the highest Instructor to student ratio of any event I have ever attended.ButtDyno wrote:Is there a list of instructors?

Dave,
I'm not involved in this event, but it's safe to say that no one is going to say it' O.K. to use a stopwatch. You shouldn't even ask. Sorta like the gay sailors.

The official rule is no timing since this is not a racing event. It is a a High Performance Driving School.DaveL20 wrote:On the timing issue. We can still have someone stopwatch us correct?
Now the reality is that we will not have covert agents hidden in the paddock area looking for this. We will not ask you to hand in your wristwatch at the entrench gate either. But If I just happen to see someone timing laps they will be asked to stop the timing.

You should be fine, we have a couple spaces left in both Group 1 and Group 2. Group 3 still has ~10 slots left. Should be interesting to see Cougars on the track. Make sure you have decent pads in order to stop, those cars do not look lightweight.jimk351c wrote:My registration / check is in the mail. Hopefully there are still spots!
